Crafty Daisies.com—Make Your Own Buttons (free tutorials)

Lots of tutorials for so many great items… Crafty Daisies.com is a blog I found a couple of days ago with tutorials for a crochet hook case, baby capes, doggy beds, exploding scrapbook box… and a video showing how to make your own buttons from Fimo (or could use Sculpy, I suppose).  Other tutorials are shown on the current pages… Have a look…

Kitty & Me Designs

pkembmag.jpgI went with DH to coffee a couple of days ago at Hastings where he meets up with his buddies  almost every afternoon.  In the process of looking through the magazines (placed obscenely close to the coffee shop just because they know I can’t leave without buying one), I found not one…or two… but three stitching mags with patterns by Pamela Kellogg of Kitty & Me Designs!  Well…after looking at all three I had to pick which one I wanted.. tough job…  When I realized that one of them had TWO of her patterWedding Sampler by Pam Kelloggns..well guess which one I bought!

The Cross Stitcher has Pam’s wonderful little bunny on the cover and another inside that is perfect for weddings and anniversaries.  I fell head over heels for that butterfly motif … have always loved pansies.  Drop over and say hello to Pam and look at the wonderful handwork she is doing. She does crazy quilting, makes lovely purses and also has an Etsy boutique. Sprinkled through her blog are several free embroidery motifs. Have a look…

Celtic Cross Stitch Word Generator (free patterns) (This website is no longer available..;o(

Filet Crochet done in 2004

I’m sorry to say that the word generator is no longer to be found … Thanks go to Diana for letting me know about this.

Celtic Cross Stitch   is especially known for it’s wonderful kits and patterns for the Book of Kells alphabet.  They have many other Celtic kits,  a Celtic history page, and a tutorialfor beginners just learning to cross stitch.  One of my favorites is the free online Word Generator page.  By typing in your word or phrase (up to 30 letters), you can generate your own pattern in the Celtic alphabet…wonderful!

I have also used this generator for filet crochet.

Sunbonnet Sue.com (lots of free patterns)

Sunbonnet Sue.comI’ve always loved Sunbonnet Sue.  I stumbled across this site about a year ago and just have to go back every now and then to see what’s up.  Several free patterns here, however there are several free patterns scattered throughout the site.  Sunbonnet Sam has his own page.  Don’t miss the “FDNY Firemen Raising the Flag atBad Sue.com the World Trade Center”  block …And Then… There is the Bad Sue site!  Sue reads Playgirl, swims in a NO SWIMMING AREA… too much fun.  Have a look…

Straw.com (100+ free knitting & a few crochet patterns)

Straw.com “Bamboozle” Short Sleeve Raglan SweaterIf you haven’t been to Straw.com lately you should drop over and have a look see.  They not only have new yarns and bamboo needles at the Crystal Palace, but also many new, lovely free patterns up.  Of the hundred or so free patterns found on the free pattern page, this short sleeved raglan sweater is one of my favorites, but then there are several that would qualify as “my favorites”…grin   Their list of free patterns is so long new lists have had to be made for Bags & Purses and Hats.  Have a look…

micro revolt Knit Pro 2.0 (online grid program for making patterns)

I was wandering through the archives at Whip Up and came across the link to micro revolt Knit Pro 2.0.  This is an online grid program that allows you to use one of Butterfly grid patternyour own photos and make a grid pattern for cross stitch, knitting or crocheting.  I used a piece of clip art that I had saved and gave it a try… This grid setting is for cross stitch.  There are other settings for knitting and crocheting.  The patterns are pulled up in Adobe pdf. format and can be saved to your pc from there.  It was surprisingly quick and simple to do and I am quite happy with the results.  Double clicking on the pic will give a much larger, stitch by stitch look at the pattern. I will be going back to try a knitting pattern using my grandson’s high school logo… I think that would be a fun Christmas present.  Have a look…

High Tech Knitting and Crocheting

Binary Scarf from Knitty.comI always wondered what all the little lines, 1′s and 0′s were on the labels at the grocery store.  Seemed an awful lot like Greek to me.  Then I found this knitted scarf at Knitty.com. (By the way, the new Spring zine is up!  Don’t ya love it!)  Click on the pic for a full view on the Knitty site.

This stirred my brain a bit… What about an afghan …crocheted or knitted that said whatever you would like to say … in binary!  Great for guys… or girls that enjoy codes… or maybe secret messages… or poems…  or whatever.  I did a search and found the binary code alphabet…  What surprised me was that it has both upper and lower case letters.  Have a look….

Crochethook (free patterns and tutorial)

Interlocking crochet example from Crochethook.comI found Crochethook several months ago and I find myself going back to this tutorial often.  Interlocking crochet has the potential to give current designs just the right chic look.  It makes afghans reversible, purses would be adorable and sweaters would be unique one-of-a-kind personal statements.

There are several free patterns on this site including a filet crochet frog (very cute), little girl’s curl hat, and a Navajo Tears bookmark (wonderful)   Have a look…
