Blogging Vacation??!!

It seems I have been on a long blogging vacation.  Guess you could say I had “blogger’s block”.  Anyway, hopefully, that is receding and things will return to normal soon…. (I think quitting smoking may have something to do with all this… so please forgive my absences!)

My small balls of left over yarn from other projects seem to have been calling me for the last couple of weeks.  Some small Barbie things came about with the evening tv… see here.   But I have also been working with my naalbinding needle.  I’ve made a few things, but I wanted to make one that is actually wearable, so off I went with the left over Lion Brand wool blend that I have and this is what I came up with… (sorry for the blur..)  I do really like this hat and it really is wearable… if you are 6 months to 1 year old…grin  Do you suppose I am having a bit of trouble with my sizing??  …grin

While I am working out in the shop with DH on the hot tub deck,  I think I will make some more needles as I am finding that I need smaller needles with smaller yarns.  (Ya think??!!) grin

Pam Kellogg and Kreinik (free patterns)

PK Robin 2007If you have followed by blog for any small amount of time, you already know that Pam Kellogg of Kitty and Me Designs is my favorite cross stitch designer.  There is something unique with each of her designs that just says “Pam Kellogg!”  She also does wonderful crazy quilting.  Check out her Etsy boutique…  The pic is a smallpattern that she has on her blog called “First Robin of Spring” … I have started it on a sampler that includes many of the stitches for PLOS.

Well, this morning as I was surfing through the free patterns at Kreinik several of the patterns just “spoke” to me… and when I checked, sure enough they were Pam’s.  Besides cross stitch patterns, there are also patterns for crochet, card making, fashion arts, hardanger and more…. Have a look…

How to Make a Doll Dress (tutorial)

Tiny Zippers.com is that perfect place online to find all the tiny little necessaries for making perfect doll clothes.  Tiny zipper, hooks & eyes, fasteners, buttons, charms…for the perfect proportioned doll clothes.   Vintage and contemporary patterns for Barbie style dolls.  But one of the best things for the inexperienced doll dress maker is the wonderful, step-by-step tutorial for making a dress from beginning to end…including how to insert the zipper.   I have spent about 2 hours wandering through this site looking at patterns, how to’s and on an on…  Have a look….

“Free Spirit” Quilts

First I want to say “Thanks!” to everyone who has continued to stop by and check out my blog.  I think the Caddy Crash bumped me around a little more than I thought.  It’s been an interesting 2 weeks…  and on to  wonderful things….

Free Spirit in their own words…. “our commitment to you is the most innovative quilt fabric designs by the top names in the industry.”   Love these fabrics….  And their list of free quilt patterns(60+ downloadable pdf. files using Adobe)  …  enough to make you drool for weeks…  Have a look….

SRF Quilt Update & 2 Needle Knitted Mitten Pattern…

Our new car….ughhhIt seems that when it rains it pours… as my grandmother always said.  Anyway, I guess that in the midst of the goings on for the last week or so I seem to have taken a blogging holiday.  We got the call this morning that the Ranger newsletter we publish quarterly is now printed and ready for mailing…thank goodness… at last.

This is our car…Last Thursday, I seem to have damaged it…grin  I will forever sing the praises of side air bags and steel reinforcement… After a few days of quite stiff and sore, a little tenderness and case of nerves, all is well.  During this time a few small things were finished… and the embroidery on my Split Rail Fence.

I had thought that I would use an old piece of green sheeting that I have for the backing, but after finishing the embroidery on the top, I really don’t want to use old fabric for the back… and the green looks a little horrible anyway.  I guess I really didn’t expect my first quilt to please me so much…grin  So a trip to JoAnn’s is in the works for this afternoon so I can get it pinned, basted and ready to quilt.  Still not sure about my hand quilting, but will give it a try anyway.  I have found some quilting designs at Victoriana Quilters.com  and I am trying to decide which one would work for the quilting techniques.

The two small purses are simple crochet with simple twisted cording.  The mitten is the first two-needle mitten I have made… in fact it is the first knitted mitten I have ever made.  The pattern is found here with many thanks to Mariella of Knitting Nonni.
