I’m Back… With Good Quilting News! (free patterns and tute)

Whew! The holidays are over once again and we are not only into a new year but whole new Decade! How did that happen so fast?

During this period when I have been gone I haven’t just been holiday-ing… ;o) I finished my first queen sized quilt. Love that.   I quilted this on my machine and since it’s my first I will forgive myself the pucker….  You can bet this won’t be the last quilt I do… I am now hooked.

Years ago my mom made all of her grandchildren quilts.  They were a good lap sized quilt and she didn’t quilt them. A couple of us girls got together with her and we all worked together and tied them.  I was thinking of that this morning when I came across this site…

Mary’s Quilts.com … She had many scrappy quilt patterns on her site and this page with instructions (tute) for how to tie your quilts.

I hope your holidays were good.  Mine were great.  Some of the children and grandchildren came home and one of the grandsons married over Christmas holidays.  What a wonderful celebration!  A great way to end a year and begin another one….

So I got online and looked at one of my new favorite sites and Wow!  Some really cool stuff!

I finished building the swift and  was surprised how easy it was to do.  Works like a charm.  I have to thank Crafty Diversions  for the terrific tutorial.  My DH and I put our heads together and made an upright stand to put it on after I took this picture.  Then … in my infinite questionable wisdom… I decided to stain and varnish it.  Big mistake.  It was a smooth as glass… Now it’s more like the treasured plants of the Mojave Desert… sigh   All of it will have to be totally sanded again.  I used the wrong type polyrethane to do the final coat.  Anyway…it will again look like this.  And what a wonderful tool….

I’ve been weaving some more on my large inkle loom.  I’ve found that as I use it I have learned that moving the warp is not nearly the job that I thought it would be.  It must be grasped in two places, pull down with left hand and up with right hand and it moves very smoothly over the pegs.  Love it.  This long sampler piece is great.  Just wish I lived near someone proficient in card weaving.. Would be so much fun to work together.

DH and I went to Ozark Mills a couple of weeks ago for another fiber fix.  Gail was overloaded with wonderful colors of wool.  I bought the merino shown in the photo and some bright yellow Romney.  They were packing the trailer and getting ready to leave for SAFF. … Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair in Fletcher,  North Carolina.  This will be October 23rd, 24th, 25th  so if you live in the area or are on vacation that way…stop by and say hello…

Please Get Permission….

I have put several free patterns that were created by me  up on this site.  They were uploaded with the thought in mind that others j0210200might like to use them.  If they are  used  for personal use… that’s great.  If they are  used  to sell the products ..well… I hope  millions are made,  all the kids are sent to college and that 4th house in Tuscany is available to be bought.  The fact is that those patterns were done easily by me.  I did not have to take a lot of notes, work out all the sizes and combinations that would work for everyone in the universe.

I put links up to many free patterns.  I do this because I feel that if I enjoy these patterns then my readers will probably enjoy them also.  I have blogged about this before….. These patterns are put out there for our enjoyment.  Some of them are copyrighted.  Some may not be formally copyrighted, but there is such thing as Creative Commons.   If a person feels that they want to use a pattern for profit of any kind…. PLEASE BE SURE TO GET PERMISSION FROM THE CREATOR!   Just because there is  a link to a pattern or a site and the word “free” is used does not mean that it is free for commercial manufacture.  The owner of this site cannot give you permission to use the pattern for profit.  Only the creator can do that.

It is too sad that the reason for this post is misuse of one of the most popular patterns that is linked to here on Fabric Follies Two.

LOTS of Free Embroidery Patterns….

Agulha de Ouro is a magazine (be aware there will be a couple of pop-ups CQ Grapeswith the home site)  with a page for LOTS of free embroidery patterns here… with no pop-ups that I know of on the pattern site.  I love them.  There is a list of types of patterns and I just clicked on each one to see what they are…lol  This is .. I think… an Italian site so is not written in English.  But the patterns are lovely and it is relatively easy to tell what each category is…

There are alphabet patterns that I will be using to card weave… Can’t wait to see if this works…

I must apologize for such long periods between posts, but it seems that I am working on having a real case of carpal tunnel syndrome and my right arm and hand hurt considerably much of the time… Doctor visit is scheduled for next week and maybe after that things will get back to normal… ;o)

Free Knitting Patterns by Kathy North

My daughter called yesterday.  Her first grandbaby is on the way thanks to her knitneedleyarnballDH’s son who lives in Montana.  I had to smile.  (Remember when you discovered for the first time that you were gonna be a Grandma?  I do. ) I tried to slide right past the fact that if she becomes Grandma…what does that make me?  lol  Well, we’ll continue to slide right past that one.. ;o)

I was doing a little googling this morning and came across some really lovely free knitting and crochet patterns by Kathy North at Designs by Kathy North .

I fell in love with the Ruffled Lace Christmas Stocking and the Rippling Waves Baby Blanket.   While I will probably be teaching her the knit and purl stitches soon, I think I will save these two patterns for myself….lol
