I decided that I wanted to give my blog a face lift. So I did the thing called “Try it! You’ll like it!” Well, I didn’t like it and when I came back to this look all my widgets were gone… Humph I guess it’s just as well that it happened that way.. as irritating as it was. Now I really will give it a new look… so be patient with me as I try new things to find the look I like.. please..

I’ve been gone a while…thank you, Facebook..;( Don’t get me wrong…I love being able to put little notes up and visit with family and friends in real time. But I find that I miss my blog… so here I am..

For my wonderful daughter in law….

I did this scarf for my wonderful daughter in law. The first scarf I did was hand spun yarn that was spun on my spinning wheel. I made the mistake of trying to dye it with Rit Dye. Oh My! .. When I tried to rinse until clear, the black and red never did rinse til clear. I just see the mess that would make the first time she had to wash it. Even in cold, cold water it just would not clear. Well that used up all my handspun.. ughhh So I bought some yarn that friend of mine had spun and started over.. this time I used Kool Aid for the red and it turned out beautiful.

The finished scarf turned out beautifully. The yarn is merino/silk and it is has a very soft, gentle flow to it.

The weather here in North Texas has had mild temps for the last few days, but the cloud cover and misty rain has kept it pretty blah.. But I have to say that my flowers surely needed the rain.

Have a wonderful day..

I’ve been working on a selection of different styles of handwork to show at the Ingram Arts and Crafts Show in Tupelo, OK on Sept. 22, 2012. The photo shows a pocket weaving board warped with hand spun wool plied with polyester thread then woven with 1/2 inch strips of and old sheet that I had lying around. Took no time at all to weave.

This coin purse is the result. The rose cluster is embroidered with silk ribbon. I love it.

If you find yourself with a little time on your hands, do come out and just enjoy the fun with us.. ;o)

I have an aunt and uncle (twins) who turned 80 years old this year. My aunt has wanted to have an art show in honor of my grandparents for years. There is a lot of talent in the family and she would like everyone to join in. So I will be in Tupelo, Oklahoma on September 22 for this show. I will be doing demonstrations of spinning, weaving, naalbinding and card weaving. This needle book will be one of the things that I will have for sale.

Remember this from 2008?

I have had this fabric stored away with many other things I have made. Well, I decided to use it to make a needle book. I started by felting some wool that also had stashed and after it dried completely I began.

The embroidery thread was spun a couple of years ago and has been used for many projects.. ;o) I thought I might want to use the card woven ribbon for a book mark, but decided that bookmark and needles might not be a good match.. ;o)

The finished needle book has large pockets on front and back covers for scissors and accessories.

The finished needle book. I may add more to it… a crocheted thimble holder or such. We’ll see.. ;o)

We are enjoying an unseasonable cool spell here in North Texas. Very nice sitting outside weather…

Have a wonderful day.. ♥

I love it. I just found it. I. had. to. show. it. to. you.!! I really like the disappearing nine patch quilt block. It takes an easy basic block and turns it into something that looks so meticulously done.

This quilt was made for my first granddaughter.. ;o) Her name is Hannah.

Now I have learned that I am in line for a Great Granddaughter and another Great Grandchild … !!! Wow!
So this new disappearing nine patch will look like this for at least one of these precious babies..

This is disappearing nine patch quilt where the 9 patch blocks were specifically pieced and cut to make this gorgeous quilt. It’s found at Jo’s Country Junction, but the link to the tutorial can be found HERE…

Hop over and have a look.. ;o)

It’s beginning the really hot part of summer here in North Texas.. All I can say is ..Thank Goodness for Air Conditioners!

Back in the previous incarnation of Fabric Follies Two … called Fabric Follies .. I posted a link to Crafty Diversions . At the time I was just learning to spin and was so fascinated with her free tutorial for making a yarn swift that I went out in the shop (that we no longer have… ;o( …. and made one.

This was so easy to make. The only thing I did wrong was … I didn’t measure the circular distance between peg holes and as a result did not come out exactly 2 yards between pegs. But I was only off 1 inch so it’s not difficult to figure the length of the yarn.

My SDH decided it would be easier to use if we put it on a stand… so we did. I love it and it works great…

So if you have a little space in your garage or back porch.. or where ever.. give this a try. It cost about $20.00 to make (including the stand… mine is solid oak*).

Have a wonderful day.. ;o)

* I would suggest using a light weight wood. Mine is solid oak and the pull on the yarn is pretty hard unless you go easy. I love mine, but someone unfamiliar with it may put too much strain on the yarn.

I have a terrific friend named Pat. She’s a spinner and knitter like I’ve always wanted to be.. ;o) She said she was wandering through one of the big box stores one day and passed the exercise equipment. Her eyes hit on the fit-together-like-a-puzzle yoga/exercise mats and voila’… inspiration! Blocking! Needless to say, she bought them and needless to say… I borrowed them. ;o)

I’ve tried several times to block the shawls I knitted a couple of years ago, but could not find a spot big enough to pull out the edgings. I tried the carpet when we lived in the other house, but just could not stay on the floor long enough…ugh

I laid these out on my dining room table and had to put the chairs up near the table to hold them and even then it was almost too small, but with a little rigging I got it to work. ;o) This one is the first (and only) time I have knitted with a single yarn. This is BFL spun on my Kromski spinning wheel, kool aid dyed and hand knitted using Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Pi Shawl. I love that idea for a shawl that can also be made into a tablecloth. This was my first try,so it is quite plain… but came out lovely in the end. ;o)

It blocked out to 59 inches diameter. I think it would have been even bigger if my table had been wider…lol

I l.o.v.e.. the way this turned out. So soft and really lovely.

The hand spun and knit natural color shawl that was my second try with the EZ Pi Shawl pattern. It still is simple but a bit more lace to it.. ;o)

I forgot to measure the diameter of this one, but it is probably about an inch smaller than the green one. I love how it turned out. Both of them blocked beautifully. The pins held everything in place very well… none of the slipping and flopping that I’ve had using the carpet or a towel on the bed. They dried easily and quickly.

I really love the way these worked and will be getting my own set. Thanks, Pat, for the great idea! BTW… Pat has her own blog over at Confessions of a Fiber Enthusiast . Drop over and say Hello!

I love the way these can be set up for any size. Crochet, knit, weave, embroidery…all of these would do beautifully using anything from one square to all of them for blocking your projects. Great tool to have in your craft bag of tricks.

Have a really wonderful day.. ;o)

It’s nice to be back with the group again. Boy, have I missed it! Last week we decided that we would try making Rose Petal Guest Soaps this week.. So we did!

We all fell in love the little soaps. This is Sonia dipping the petals in the clear, melted soap. We used Cucumber/Melon scent and had a choice of red, mint green or pink petals.

In this pic.. on the right side … you can see the shiny rose petals that have been dipped and set out on the waxed paper to dry.

We welcomed Fran last week and she was back this week. Fran is a volunteer at Texoma Medical Center and a terrific knitter. Circling from Sonia at the counter is Pat B., Pat L., Fran, Barbara.. and of course.. me. I’ve decided no one will ever know what I look like..even my children.. since its me that’s the photo hound..lol

I didn’t get a picture of the beautiful shawl that Pat L. is crocheting… but I will next time.. ;o)

Have a great day today and share it with friends.. even if it’s only in memories..

Some time back, I told you that when I remembered the name of the lovely lady who made those sweet cards that were in the Rose Petal Soaps give-away, I would post and let you know who she is.. Well… finally… here it is.. ;o)

Her name is Kim Sorensen-Nielsen and she has an Etsy shop called Kreativity where you can find hand crafted cards, hand crafted jewelry and right now some lovely paper flowers.

Have a look. You’ll be glad you did! ;o)

It’s a beautiful day today here in North Texas. Temps supposed to be up in 70s … Even tho I know that ice and snow can still arrive at any time, I’m sure going to enjoy this while I can.. ;o)

Have a lovely day…
