The Meaning of Flowers

Crochet and Silk Ribbon Embroidery Rose BasketI have just joined a Yahoo group with fabric post card exchanges called Art We Mail.  It’s a lovely, friendly group and as I am preparing for our first swap I began to think in terms of flowers and their meanings… one of the swaps I’m in is called Friendship.   Did you know that the violet carries the meaning “Pure and sweet thou art!”….. or that the pink phlox means “I think we might be friends” ?  I think everyone equates red roses with love, but did did you know that white roses mean “I love you not!” and yellow roses mean “I love another.”  At the turn of the century entire messages could be sent with just a small posie.  I love this idea….

To learn the meanings of flowers, Vangelis.com.au has them all listed in alphabetical order…just click on the first letter of the flower name…

I’ve read about this before – love the idea that if you made up a posy of certain flowers, it carried all kinds of messages beyond just “here’s some pretty flowers”. Thanks for stopping by my blog & hope to swap with you sometime in the new group!
