Knitting Socks…or should I say trying to learn?

Christmas and New Years have come and gone and what a time around here!   Friends First pair of knitted socks...and family…what more could one ask for…. Now it is time to get back into the swing of things.

I’ve been trying to learn to knit socks…. Not terribly hard if one follows the pattern…  but I seem to be having a problem with when to start decreasing for the toes… ughhh  And I really, really, REALLY hate Knit Socks Patternfrogging knitting.  I never seem to get the stitches back on the needles going the right direction..lol

This is the pattern that I used for these socks.  It uses the k1, slip 1 stitch that makes the soles really thick and soft… however… since I am such a novice (and not so quick on the uptake these days), I changed it to the stockinette stitch because of the raw edges that were left on the sides of the heel… I know that doesn’t really make sense..lol… but…

These are not made with my hand spun wool… I really needed something that will be easily washed and I didn’t want to spend the money on washable wool until I was sure I could make the socks… so these are made with Lion Brand Wool-Ease (found on sale for $2.00/skein at JoAnn’s!).   I have to say that I prefer my handspun, but these will do until I learn what I am doing…grin

I am finding that working with DPNs is not as difficult as I thought it would be.  And even if I have to make a dozen socks that don’t fit, I will finally get it all figured out…lol
