Spindling the Roving

I put together 3 new spindles to spin my hand painted mixed wool top.  I love the way it is so easy to spin the much smaller yarn.  I really would have preferred the speed that I get with the wheel, but my Prelude seems to enjoy spinning slightly large fingering, sport or bulky weight yarn.

These toy wheel spindles weigh in at 0.75 oz. and are wonderful.  At some point I will paint them, but probably not until I have finished spinning this….

I have never used mixed wool tops before and fully expected this to be very inferior wool.  I have been wonderfully surprised as it spins much like Blue Faced Leicester.  It has mixed staple lengths, but I have found none that are as short as Merino.  I ordered this from Halcyon Yarns and have never been disappointed in anything I have ordered from there.

I just found your blog through the “possibly related posts” function on WordPress. I like it! I’ve just started spinning myself and I love finding others who spindle spin.
