My Kool Aid Keeps Splitting!

I finished hand spinning 1600 yards of mixed wool the other day.  I finally decided that I wanted to dye it in two batches.. a small batch (500 yds) of lemon yellow and the large batch (1100 yds) purple.  The yellow came out perfect and I love it.  The purple however is a different story.

I used 6 packages of Kool Aid, made sure it was dissolved in the water before adding the soaked yarn but at the end of the dyeing/cooling cycle it was mottled where the different colors making up the purple had split and some is a reddish color, some is beautiful deep blue and some is a murky purplish.

If anyone has any idea how to keep this from happening, I would love to know the answer.  This yarn is meant for a  triangle loom woven shawl, but I’m not sure now what I will decide to do.
