Tablet Weaving… A New Convert

My phone rang a couple of days ago.  There was a name on the ID that I didn’t recognize but we often get calls from workmen who use a phone belonging to someone else, so I answered it.  Was I ever surprised to hear a wonderfully friendly voice asking if I still gave lessons on card weaving!  Needless to say, after a few minutes talking a date and a time was set for that basic lesson.. 🙂

CardWeaving092013As I was setting this up I realized just easily steps are forgotten if you don’t use them.  I still have to make the strings for the attachment to the loom itself, but after that everything is ready .. and I am so looking forward to it.

I asked myself the other day why it was that I decided to use the weight system.  As I was setting this up I realized that if I didn’t have each warp thread with its own weight I could not weave a design that had the cards turn  all one direction.  The twist on the warp builds up until you can’t go any farther without turning your design 180° and turning the cards the other direction or go to the trouble of unhooking the far end of the warp threads to relieve  the twist.  With each warp having its own weight it’s very easy to untwist the warp and keep on weaving.

I can hardly wait until Carol gets here.

Hope your Friday the 13th is a good one..
